Malone, N.Y., May 3, 2007 - Two golf courses from GolfAtPar.com, the web site that brings New York golf courses to Canadians at par, are featured in the seventh edition of Golf Digest's Best Places to Play. The Malone Golf Club in Malone and the Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club in Saranac Lake received the second highest possible rating of 4 ½ stars. Golf Digest's biennial Best Places to Play is the game's most comprehensive survey. Since 1994 the magazine has relied on the opinions of its readers for the rankings, instead of an exclusive panel of experts. Subscribers were asked to rate public courses on a scale from one to five in the categories of course condition, pace of play, service, value and overall golf experience. The Malone Golf Club is not only well known in New York but is also a destination for many Canadians. The club has 36 championship holes divided into two outstanding courses designed by Robert Trent Jones. The West Course is 6,592 yards (par 71), and the East Course is 6,545 yards (par 72). The East course received a rating of 4 ½ stars while the West course received a rating of 4 stars. Best Places to Play advises readers that "if you are nearby, make sure you play" the East course. They also comment that "this real classic is a great golf course with a nice variety of holes". Additionally, "if you land in the bunkers" on the West Course, "you'll be in white sand. It's a tight, shotmaker's course with an excellent clubhouse and food. Much tougher than the East with lots of water in play." The Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club also received 4 ½ stars. The golf club is part of the famous Saranac Inn Resort and is located on the pristine shores of the exclusive Upper Saranac Lake. It was founded in 1901 and was designed by renowned Scottish pro and architect, Seymour Dunn. This par 72 has a reputation for extraordinary maintenance with full automatic irrigation and bent grass greens. It's rating of 72.1, slope of 128, and length of 6,557 yards makes it one of the most challenging courses in the Northeast. Best Places to Play rates Saranac Inn as "the best course in the Adirondacks. It's immaculately maintained with friendly service, spectacular greens, tees and fairways." Golf Digest's biennial Best Places to Play is published in association with Fodor's. The survey polled 20,000 readers who responded via mail and the Internet. The results identified the top 4,000 public golf courses in North America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The Malone Golf Club and the Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club are two of 14 courses that were highlighted from the Adirondack region of New York state.
